Every item that is sold in store and online at Target has a DPCI / DCPI number. This is like a UPC code. You can find this on the shelf tag of each product, on the actual product, or on red clearance sticker tags. Use this DPCI number to find the item in store or online. You can ask a Customer Service associate to look up the item for you using their scanner or you can even look up the item yourself using the website Brickseek. DPCI stands for Department, Class, Item. Every item that Target carries is assigned a unique DPCI number. The first three digits are the department number; the next two are the class number; and the following four are the item number.

In general, when you use coupons at Target, the store only allows only 4-like coupons per transaction. If you try to use more than 4, the 5th coupon will beep and prompt the cashier to not accept it. You can use one manufacturer coupon with one Target coupon. In addition, you can also use a Cartwheel coupon! A Cartwheel is a digital coupon, usually a percentage (%) off of a particular product or line of products. Download the Cartwheel mobile app to “clip” these coupons and redeem them at checkout using your unique Cartwheel barcode found on the app.

Clearance is often located on the end caps of the aisles and marked with a red/round tag “CLEARANCE.” Check your own local Target for Clearance items using the photos below.
Based on past experiences, the weekly markdown schedule for Target clearance items is as follows:
- Monday: Baby items, children’s clothing, electronics, and office supplies/gift wrap/stationery
- Tuesday: Home décor, women’s clothing, and domestic items
- Wednesday: Food, health and beauty items, men’s clothing, toys, and garden items
- Thursday: Lingerie, housewares, sporting goods, shoes, and luggage
- Friday: Cosmetics, jewelry, hardware, automotive, and home improvement
Items that are unsold at Target go through a markdown phase that starts at 15% off to 30%, 50%, 70% and eventually up to 90% off. It takes about 2 weeks for items to be marked down in this order until it is sold or donated (at 90%, to make room for new items).
